Wort Flower
Herbs} Should I cut the flowers off of my tyme plants to keep them from going to seed?
I have orange, lemon, and german, tyme. I know with some herbs you shouldn’t let them go to seed.
The orange tyme is already blooming a light lavender flower.
Do I cut them off, or is it okay to let the flowers grow?
Any other information on this subject would be great.
I also have
Rock Soapwort
Lemon Basil
St. John’s Wort
Banana, Apple, & Chocolate Mint
plus several others.
Can you tell me what herbs need the flowers removed other than just the tyme?

Thyme is an easy to grow perennial. I don’t worry about cutting off the flowers and grow it more as a decorative plant than for cooking. It isn’t absolutely necessary to remove the flowers. Occasional cutting back and trimming as you use it will encourage branching. This is true of all the herbs. If you don’t cut the flowers back, the bees will be happy.
